The client

Komoot is a thriving digital platform for adventurers and outdoor enthusiasts around the world. It’s driven by a simple goal: to help people explore more of the outdoors wherever and however they want.

Komoot’s mobile apps and platform provide advanced route planning and navigation tools. At the same time, a content-rich feed of unique stories and adventures inspires its community of over 35 million users to explore and share their outdoor experiences and recommendations.

The project

For this client, we have created the Italian voice since the market launch in 2019, by localising all copy from English into Italian.

The localisation work included both UX and brand copy for different channels — app, website, mail, blog and support articles.

“Making adventure accessible to all”

Particular attention was given to the use of gender inclusive language, with solutions that avoided the use of masculine phrases to address the user — creating a more universal tone of voice that better engages different communities of outdoor enthusiasts.

 

Example: For the welcome back screen copy, instead of using the general masculine form “Bentornato” — the masculine Italian for “Welcome back” — we used the gender neutral and more inclusive “Che bello rivederti” — “It’s nice to see you again”.

The agency was responsible for the localisation in Italian and contributed with a personal story too.
